Beau reading for Southwest Shakespeare

Southwest Shakespeare Company is capturing the holiday spirit with its Storytime Classics Live production of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The multi-day Facebook Live event kicked off Dec. 22 with Beau Heckman reading Chapter 1 through 5.

In the book, written in 1816 by Prussian author E.T.A Hoffmann, the story begins on Christmas Eve, at the Stahlbaum house. Marie, seven, and her brother, Fritz, sit outside the parlour speculating about what kind of present their godfather, Drosselmeyer, who is a clockmaker and inventor, has made for them. They are at last allowed in, where they receive many splendid gifts...

Residents who may have missed the live presentation can still enjoy each day of the reading on the Company’s Facebook page.
