Cooking classes serve up delicious results

At AndyFood, a culinary studio in Scottsdale, the goal is to teach the art of cooking and create memorable food experiences –whether the format is corporate teambuilding and client appreciation parties or private and public lessons. AndyFood’s ongoing cooking classes (all open to the public) are hands-on and always offer something new on the menu. Couple-friendly, the cooking classes would be perfect for date night. Here are just a couple of upcoming classes:

October 6 – Vegetarian Stuffed Stuff: Learn to make Tyropittakia (Phyllo and Cheese Triangles), Portobello Caps Stuffed with Olives and Tomatoes, Vietnamese Summer Rolls with Cashew Dipping Sauce, Zucchini and Orzo Stuffed Peppers with Feta Gratin, Caramelized Onion Strudel with Gorgonzola, Chocolate-Filled Almond Lace Cookies. Class runs 6:30-9:30pm.

October 13 – Over-the-Top Breakfast Extravaganza: Learn to make Sweet Lemon Butter Crepes, Asparagus and Feta Crepes, Kalamata Olive and Feta Frittata, Individual Spinach Quiches with Pasta Crusts, Sundried Tomato and Parmesan Scones, Almond Scones with Chocolate Butter, Shaved Apple and Brown Sugar Breakfast Pizza. Class runs 6:30-9:30pm.

Local Mixologist Named “Most Inspired”

Jason Asher of elements at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa, was named Bombay Sapphire and GQ Magazine’s Most Inspired Bartender of 2010.  Asher and his cocktail, the Beet & Yuzu Gimlet, will be featured both inside and on a special edition cover of GQ’s December 2010 Man of the Year issue. Beet & Yuzu Gimlet

Beet & Yuzu Gimlet

2 oz. Bombay Sapphire Gin
½ oz. Beet juice
½ oz. Simple syrup
¼ oz. Fresh yuzu juice

Combine all ingredients in a glass.  Add ice and shake vigorously.  Double strain into a martini glass garnished with a watermelon and honeydew skewer.

2 ounces Three Olives Pomegranate Vodka
5 ounces Pomegranate juice

Preparation
