PV Announces Scholarship Semifinalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships for high school students. Of the 1.5 million entrants, about 50,000 qualify for recognition. Two-thirds of those qualified receive Letters of Commendation; the remaining one-third become semifinalists, about 94 percent of whom go on to become finalists. Over half of the finalists are selected to receive scholarships underwritten by corporations and business organizations, colleges and universities and by NMSC with its own funds.

Last month, fourth grade students at Phoenix Country Day School invited their parents to join them before school to learn more about their classrooms and the projects they are working on. Student photographers captured images during the visit.

Saguaro High School will be collecting non-perishable food and household items and creating a food bank for the community and students. To help, attend the Varsity football games and bring with you one or more of the items on the list below and get free popcorn at the concession stand. Boxed meals (mac and cheese, Hamburger Helper etc.), pasta, spaghetti sauce, cereal, soup, rice, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned tuna, chicken and granola and breakfast bars

Toilet paper, soap, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, deodorant and feminine products

Now Accepting Kindergarten Applications For 2010-11
kindergartenThe K-12 Jess Schwartz Jewish Community Day School (JSJCDS) in Scottsdale is currently accepting applications for the 2010-11 school year Kindergarten classes.
The JSJCDS is committed to lower student to teacher ratios, which allows for productive and meaningful individualized instruction available. Children come to kindergarten with varying levels of skills; and at JSJCDS the teachers work with these children in productive groups in order to challenge each child’s personal abilities.

Family Health Expo

little doctorScottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center is hosting a Family Expo from 8am-12pm on October 3. The free event will include clowns, face painting, fingerprinting and many more fun games and activities. Demonstrations include bike, helmet, pool and sun safety; car seat checks; and infant and adult CPR. Families will also have a chance to get free immunizations for the children, learn about Scottsdale Healthcare programs, meet primary care physicians, obstetricians and pediatricians and tour the Family Birthing Center. Parent/Teacher Association Seeks Membersnametag The Chaparral High School Association of Teachers and Parents (CHAPTS) needs members. CHAPTS membership monies are used to fund many needed projects throughout the school year. Meetings are held monthly and include updates from the principal and student government. All parents are welcome and volunteers are always needed. The next CHAPTS meeting will be held in the school library on October 19; hospitality at 6:30pm, meeting begins at 7pm. Water Festival At Rio Salado

dragonfly The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is inviting kids and families to learn more about water quality, aquatic insects, watersheds, water magic tricks, ground water, recycling, rain harvesting and conservation on October 24. The day will include hands-on activities, guided walks and games. The event is free and will be held from 9am-1pm at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, 2439 South Central Avenue in Phoenix.
