“Arizonans can help, first of all by committing to defend women, and empower them in shelters and other social agencies here in Arizona where many women and their children suffer the ravages of domestic violence. Volunteering to serve the women by sharing time or donations will help in the healing process they must attain. Job training and counseling, in addition, will make them able to function in our community. Donating to Casa Amiga (casa-amiga.org) the premier shelter for women in Juárez, and to other women’s groups that assist with a woman’s needs and healing will help enormously. I heard a woman explain to me in Juárez that one way to stop these crimes is to turn the tables on machismo. Teach young boys how to respect their mothers and sisters. I thought this was a great solution, and although it will take possibly another generation to accomplish...it is worth the battle.”

This unspeakable story depicts some of the most chilling hate crimes ever imagined. More frightening than any Stephen King novel, it’s an appalling true-life horror story. Just across the border of El Paso, the young women of Juárez, Mexico are losing their lives in a terrifyingly, consistent manner.

Local award-winning author Stella Pope Duarte bravely tackles this horrific injustice in her recent book, If I Die In Juárez. She offers a voice to the victims and families who want the world to know that their daughters did not deserve this fate, and that the murderers are still out there.
