Whole Foods Market welcomes Candice Hood of the Fit and Fabulous Mommy Club to Phoenix area stores in October and November. Hood is a celebrity lifestyle and wellness coach, a figure competitor and Mommy Fit Expert. The Fit and Fabulous Mommy Club National Tour encourages and empowers moms to master a fit mind, body and finances.

Each meeting is free to the public and includes a fitness session led by Hood and top Phoenix trainers and Fit and Fabulous family recipes and cooking demonstrations hosted by Whole Foods Market with easy, healthy, family-friendly meal ideas. The session also includes a Fit Financial Empowerment session teaching moms how to be financial assets – whether stay-at-home moms, or out in the work force – beginning with mastering daily household budgets and creating business opportunities.

On October 17, Macy’s stores will team up with Chrysalis, an organization that provides shelter services for victims of domestic violence, for Shop for a Cause – where 100 percent of ticket sale proceeds go directly to Chrysalis. Purchase a $5 ticket and receive an all day pass for 20 percent off regular, sale and clearance apparel and accessories, jewelry, frames, bed and bath, house wares, luggage and china. Receive 10 percent off furniture, mattresses, rugs, all electrics and electronics. With the purchase of a ticket, shoppers will also receive one 25 percent off coupon to be used once on October 17 and be entered to win a $500 gift card. Remember: there is always a computer trail. If you think someone is tracking your usage, find a safer computer. Most public libraries offer free computer usage.

PV Mayor Launches Gubernatorial Campaign Website
Vernon ParkerOn September 23, Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker entered the 2010 governor’s race by announcing the formation of an exploratory committee for the office and launching a new website. Visitors to parker2010.com, will be able to view Mayor Parker’s Twitter feeds, Facebook updates and a biography of the Mayor, as well as learn about issues that are important to Arizonans and view videos.

PRWC Members Attend National Convention
Susan Kay Schultz President Susan Kay Schultz (pictured), Recording Secretary Barbara McMullen, Leona Johnston, Pat Kaufman and Dianna Soe Myint from the Paradise Republican Women’s Club joined more than 1,300 other Republican women leaders from across the nation in Orlando, Florida September 10-13 for the 35th biennial convention of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW).
During the four-day event, which was one of the largest national gatherings of Republicans this year, attendees participated in leadership training seminars, campaign management schools and political and policy workshops taught by nationally-recognized political strategists. They heard from Republican leaders and elected officials, policy experts, authors and other notable guests, including Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Florida Governor Charlie Crist.
Founded in 1938, the NFRW has thousands of active members in local clubs across the nation and in several U.S. territories. The grassroots organization recruits and elects Republican candidates, advocates the Party’s philosophy and initiatives and empowers women in the political process. Music in the Garden Concert Series
The Desert Botanical Garden presents its annual Music in the Garden Fall Concert Series 2009. Visitors will enjoy an array of musical styles including Contemporary Latin, Vintage Rock, Blues and Native American percussion and flute. All concerts are held outdoors on the Garden’s beautiful Ullman Terrace. Fabulous Food serves dinner for an additional charge. There is a cash bar available and also wine tastings and sales with the opportunity to buy wine by the bottle. The 21-and-over events will be held Fridays from 7-9pm. Upcoming performances include:

Free Event Discusses Women’s Issues
The Phoenix Women’s Commission and the City of Phoenix Equal Opportunity Department in partnership with Phoenix College will host a Women’s Economic Forum on October 28. The topic of the forum is “Women Talk: Money and More” and will be held from 10:30am-1pm at Phoenix College, John Paul Theatre, 1202 West Thomas Road. Refreshments will be served. Seating is limited. Care Home Hosts Halloween Hullabaloo
pumpkin Ridgecrest Healthcare, a senior nursing facility, will host its 12th annual Halloween Hullabaloo family night. Residents and staff of Ridgecrest Healthcare will open their home to the public to offer a safe, fun way for families to celebrate Halloween. The event will take place on October 29, with Trick or Treating from 6-7:30pm, games and treats from 6-9pm and a haunted house from dark until 9pm. The event is free.

Day Of The Dead: A Storytelling Celebration
ZarcoGuerro Sunday at Kerr will celebrate the ancient holiday with Zarco Guerrero’s exotic masked characters and unique and often hilarious style of storytelling. Former Scottsdale Artists’ School Student Recognized
Kyle Stuckey Scottsdale Artists’ School student Kyle Stuckey was selected for second place award in Southwest Art Magazine’s Annual Spotlight on Emerging Artists, “21 Under 31.” Stuckey first studied at Scottsdale Artists’ School in 2006 in a workshop with Michael Malm and returned to study with Malm in 2008.
A resident of New Hampshire, Stuckey enjoys painting the figure, according to the Southwest Art September 2009 issue. He exhibits at Monadnock Fine Art Gallery in Keene.
