Silverado Senior Living Hosts Adopt-A-Pet Fair May 1

Find the right pet and tour the community
There are many factors to consider when choosing a four-legged addition to the family. To really get to know the personality of a certain breed of dog, or the needs of a more exotic pet, how about a test drive?
On Saturday, May 1 from 10am-2pm, Silverado Senior Living is hosting a free Adopt-a-Pet Fair to meet and get to know the many breeds of dogs and cats, and yes, even rats, that are available for adoption in the Valley. The event will include a free barbecue lunch.
“It will be a fun day getting to know all the breeds available for adoption, without any of the stress of taking the pet home that day,” says Amber McCord, administrator of Silverado Senior Living Scottsdale. McCord recommends bringing children to introduce them to the idea of getting a pet, being part of the decision and exploring the many personality traits of animals.
Different than a pet store or adoption site, the Silverado Adopt-a-Pet Fair is a day of learning about the various breeds available, by meeting with the breed experts to choose the ideal pet. Rescue clubs and organizations will have many animals on hand as their official breed ambassadors. Boston Terriers, Golden Retrievers, St. Bernard, Greyhounds, Beagles and Aussies are among the dog breeds that will be represented at the Fair. Once a pet type is identified, the rescue organization will make arrangements for an in-home visit with one of the pets available. Questions about exercise, getting along with other breeds and preferences will be answered.
Participating groups include the Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Arizona Golden Rescue, AZ Saint Bernard Rescue, Animals Benefit Club, Humane Society of the United States, Small Paws Rescue, AZ Happy Trails, Beagles of Arizona Rescue Club, Castaway Treasures, Amazing Aussies Lethal White Rescue of Arizona, Litter League, Nine Lives Foundation, Any Rat Rescue and more.
The Silverado Senior Living community in Scottsdale understands the unspoken therapy a pet creates. The memory care company requires a ratio of pets and residents at all of its communities in the Western United States. Residents are invited and even encouraged to bring their along their faithful companion to join the menagerie of birds, cats and dogs (even a kangaroo in one community). Visitors attending the Adopt-a-Pet Fair will be able to tour the community, meet the residents and see some of the pets at the community.
Silverado Senior Living is located at 9410 East Thunderbird Road in Scottsdale. For more information, call 480.614.9100 or visit silveradosenior.com.
Local Republican Leader Appointed To National Board
A local Republican woman leader will serve on the board of directors of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) during the 2010-11 term.
NFRW President Sue Lynch has appointed Susan Kay Schultz of Scottsdale to the Outreach/Diversity Committee, which is responsible for attracting new women from various backgrounds and walks of life to the NFRW.
“With the 2010 elections just months away, the NFRW is gearing up to help Republicans across the country win races at the local, state and national levels,” says Lynch. “We are pleased that Susan Kay is going to play a key role in this effort by sharing her talents and ideas with our members across the nation.”
Susan Kay Schultz is currently president of the Paradise Republican Women’s Club. PRWC members come from Anthem, Carefree, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Glendale, Maricopa, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Peoria, Phoenix, Rio Verde, Scottsdale, Sun Lakes and Tempe.
“Women from various backgrounds and walks of life are essential to the growth of the NFRW,” Schultz said. “We believe that some women may need identifiers to show they are welcome to join a local club and the NFRW. Our goal is to develop a Strategic Plan, enhance and promote the use of identifiers within our organization to attract women to local clubs and the NFRW.”

Scottsdale Airport Community News
At the point where North 82nd Street intersects with Hayden Road, it changes names to Pine Valley Road for a small stretch that extends approximately 380 feet. This inconsistency in street names is a concern to the City’s Fire and Police departments.
Since there are no businesses with an actual Pine Valley Road address, the City of Scottsdale wants to change the name of this stretch of roadway to North 82nd Street to reflect the proper alignment. Scottsdale will send notification of this change to Maricopa County, all emergency services, utility companies and the Post Office.
Scottsdale will change the street sign when the name change becomes official, which is anticipated to occur in June.
Any questions can be directed to Kirk Wheeler, City of Scottsdale Development Services representative, at 480.312.7094.
